Google Play Protect & APK Installation

Why Android warns about sideloaded open-source APKs and how to install safely.

Google Play Protect automatically flags any APK built outside the Google Play Store as an "Unknown developer" application. Because StreamPe is 100% free, open-source, and self-hosted, the developer APK is distributed directly via GitHub Releases rather than Google's commercial marketplace.

🔒 100% Private & Safe: StreamPe contains zero tracking, zero ads, zero external servers, and zero cloud telemetry. All communication occurs strictly over your own private local Wi-Fi router directly between your phone and your PC.

Option A: Instant 5-Second Installation (Recommended)

  1. When the Play Protect popup appears, tap "More details" (or the down arrow ▾ at the bottom).
  2. Tap "Install anyway" (or "Install anyway (unsafe)").
  3. The app will install immediately and is ready to use!

Option B: Temporarily Pause Play Protect Scanning

If your device prevents tapping "Install anyway", you can temporarily pause Play Protect scanning during installation:

  1. Open the Google Play Store on your phone.
  2. Tap your Profile Icon in the top-right corner.
  3. Select Play Protect ➔ Tap the Settings Gear (⚙️) in the top-right corner.
  4. Toggle OFF "Scan apps with Play Protect".
  5. Open and install StreamPe.apk.
  6. (Optional) You can toggle Play Protect back ON anytime after installation completes.

On Android 13, 14, and 15, Google introduced a security measure that temporarily locks the Notification Listener Access toggle for sideloaded APKs until the user explicitly unlocks it.

How to unlock in 3 steps:

  1. Open your phone's Settings ➔ Apps (or Manage Apps / App Management).
  2. Find and tap StreamPe in the app list.
  3. Tap the 3 Dots (⋮) menu icon in the top-right corner of the App Info screen.
  4. Tap "Allow restricted settings" (authenticate with Fingerprint, Face Unlock, or PIN if prompted).
  5. Re-open the StreamPe companion app and tap "Grant Notification Access" — the toggle is now unlocked!

Battery Optimization & Background Persistence

Prevent your phone vendor from closing the background WebSocket connection during long live streams.

Aggressive Android battery management (such as Samsung One UI, Xiaomi HyperOS, OnePlus OxygenOS, or Vivo FuntouchOS) puts background network sockets to sleep when the screen turns off.

Vendor-Specific Whitelist Instructions:

  • Samsung (One UI): Go to Settings ➔ Battery ➔ Background usage limits ➔ Never sleeping apps ➔ Add StreamPe.
  • Xiaomi / Redmi (MIUI / HyperOS): Go to App Info ➔ Enable "Autostart" ➔ Set Battery Saver to "No restrictions".
  • OnePlus / Realme / Oppo (ColorOS): Go to App Info ➔ Battery usage ➔ Enable "Allow background activity" and "Allow auto-launch".
  • Stock Android / Pixel / Motorola: Go to Settings ➔ Apps ➔ StreamPe ➔ Battery ➔ Select "Unrestricted".

Supported Payment Apps & UPI Features

Information on Google Pay, PhonePe, Amazon Pay, and custom donor notes.

App Support Status Permission Required Features & Highlights
Google Pay (GPay) 💬 Highly Recommended Notification Access Only Amount + Custom Donor Messages/Notes supported live on stream!
PhonePe ⚡ Highly Recommended Notification Access Only Instant Amount & Sender Name extraction without extra permissions.
Amazon Pay 🛒 Supported Notification Access UPI payments parsed from notification payload.
Cash / Offline 💵 Manual Entry None Add cash/offline donations directly into the stream ledger from the dashboard.

When a fan pays using Google Pay and types a note (e.g. "Awesome clutch in game 2! 🔥"), Google Pay includes this message directly in the Android notification payload.

StreamPe's parser extracts the note and passes it into your custom alert template as the {{message}} tag so it displays animated on your OBS stream!

PC Server & OBS Connectivity

Troubleshooting network firewalls, browser source transparency, and mDNS auto-discovery.

  • Same Wi-Fi Router: Ensure your streaming PC and phone are connected to the exact same Wi-Fi network (avoid cellular mobile data).
  • Windows Firewall: When launching StreamPe.exe, make sure Windows Firewall permissions are enabled for Private networks.
  • Correct Port: Check the header of your StreamPe desktop app for the active connection URL (e.g. http://192.168.1.100:2907).

All StreamPe OBS overlays are transparent by default. In the Web Control Panel (/config), navigate to the widget styling settings and set Background Opacity to 0% for a completely transparent backdrop that lets your gameplay shine through.
